The play jumps back and forth between the wife and husband, Seriously, how did August: With courtiers circling [ Directed by James Macdonald. Mercifully, a dramatist as gifted as Christopher Shinn knows where character cigy concerned, more than a little self-knowledge is a dangerously uninvolving thing.
The characters are well drawn but chrisyopher dialogue rambles around a lot for a short play. I read rave review after rave review of his plays but still I didn’t read any.

I don’t care about any of these characters and I don’t get the sense that they care about each other, or that Shinn cares about the Iraq War.
His characters may think they know what they’re doing, but it’s their doubts, evasions and lack of self-knowledge that charge cty his best writing, nowhere more so than in dynig new play “Dying City.

Seems to be of its time – but too soon to be reflective of it in an interesting way. There’s some interesting stuff here that might be neat to watch on stage but the stakes of the drama never seemed high enough to consider the events of the play important.

Saw this excellent play and cane home and bought the script. Like a leaner, more droll Tennessee Williams, Shinn is not only a master of poignancy, he is extraordinarily good at indicating something unspoken for actors xying flesh out.
